Author Guidelines

1. General Requirements

Authors submitting manuscripts to the Journal of Public Health and Health Services (JPHHS) are required to comply with the following requirements:

  1. Manuscripts must be relevant to the focus and scope of JPHHS.
  2. Manuscripts must be original scholarly works that have not been previously published and are not under consideration by another journal.
  3. Manuscripts may be written in Bahasa Indonesia or English.
  4. Authors are responsible for the accuracy and integrity of all content, including data, tables, figures, and references.
  5. Manuscripts must follow the article template provided by the journal.
  6. Authors must comply with JPHHS publication ethics and academic integrity policies.
  7. All manuscripts will undergo initial screening and peer review in accordance with the journal's policies.
  8. JPHHS reserves the right to reject manuscripts that are outside the journal's focus and scope, fail to meet technical requirements, or do not meet the journal's scientific standards.

2. Article Types

JPHHS accepts the following types of articles:

a. Research Article

An article presenting empirical research findings based on clear, systematic, and scientifically sound research methods.

b. Systematic Review

An article that systematically identifies, selects, critically appraises, and synthesizes previously published research using a systematic methodology.

c. Literature Review

An article that discusses and synthesizes the development of knowledge on a particular topic based on relevant scholarly literature.

3. Structure of Research Articles

A. Title

The title should be:

  • clear, informative, and specific;
  • reflective of the variables, issues, or phenomena being studied;
  • free from uncommon abbreviations;
  • concise and not excessively long.

B. Author Information

The manuscript must include:

  • full names of all authors;
  • institutional affiliations;
  • institutional addresses;
  • email addresses;
  • ORCID, if available.

The corresponding author must be clearly identified.

C. Abstract

The abstract should be concise and informative and should include:

  • Background
  • Objective
  • Methods
  • Results
  • Conclusion

The abstract is recommended to contain approximately 200–250 words.

For manuscripts written in Bahasa Indonesia, an English abstract is also required.

D. Keywords

The manuscript should include 3–5 keywords in English. Keywords should be relevant to the topic and represent the main concepts of the research.

E. Introduction

The introduction should explain:

  1. the research background and problem;
  2. the knowledge gap (research gap);
  3. scientific evidence supporting the significance of the study;
  4. previous research and current developments;
  5. the novelty of the study;
  6. the research objective.

F. Methods

The methods section should provide sufficient detail to allow the study to be understood and, where applicable, replicated.

At minimum, it should include:

  • research design;
  • study location and period;
  • population and sample/research subjects;
  • sampling technique;
  • research variables or focus;
  • research instruments;
  • data collection procedures;
  • data analysis methods;
  • ethical considerations.

For studies involving human participants, information regarding ethical approval must be provided when required.

G. Results

The results should present research findings systematically, objectively, and in accordance with the study objectives.

  • Tables and figures must have clear numbers and titles.
  • Data presented in tables or figures should not be unnecessarily repeated in the text.
  • Statistical analyses must be reported accurately.
  • Results should be clearly distinguished from interpretation and discussion.

H. Discussion

The discussion should:

  • interpret the research findings;
  • compare the findings with previous studies;
  • explain possible reasons or mechanisms underlying the findings;
  • discuss the implications of the findings;
  • demonstrate the contribution of the study to scientific knowledge or practice;
  • discuss study limitations where relevant.

The discussion should not merely repeat the results.

I. Conclusion

The conclusion should directly address the research objective and be based on the study findings.

Authors may include implications and/or recommendations where relevant.

J. Ethical Statement

Where applicable, the article should provide:

  • the name of the ethics committee;
  • ethical approval number;
  • date or year of approval.

For studies involving human participants, authors should also describe the informed consent process and measures taken to protect participant confidentiality, as appropriate.

K. Conflict of Interest

Authors must declare whether or not a conflict of interest exists.

Example:

Conflict of Interest: The authors declare that there is no conflict of interest related to this study.

L. Funding

Research funding sources must be disclosed.

If the research received no funding, authors may use the following statement:

Funding: This research received no specific funding from any public, commercial, or non-profit organization.

M. Author Contributions

For manuscripts with more than one author, the contribution of each author should be clearly described.

Contributions may be categorized using the following terms:

  • Conceptualization
  • Methodology
  • Data collection
  • Data analysis
  • Writing – original draft
  • Writing – review & editing
  • Supervision

N. Data Availability

Authors are encouraged to provide a Data Availability Statement according to the characteristics of the study, data availability, and applicable ethical and data protection requirements.

O. References

Authors must:

  • use relevant and credible sources;
  • prioritize relevant scholarly journal articles;
  • ensure that all cited sources are included in the reference list;
  • ensure that every reference in the reference list is cited in the manuscript;
  • use reference management software such as Mendeley, Zotero, or EndNote;
  • ensure that DOI information and reference metadata are accurate when available.

Authors are encouraged to use primary, relevant, high-quality, and up-to-date references. JPHHS does not impose a rigid minimum percentage or number of references published within the last five years. Reference selection should be appropriate to the field of study and type of article.

4. Technical Requirements

Manuscripts must:

  • use the JPHHS article template;
  • follow the formatting requirements specified in the template;
  • contain a complete article structure;
  • use tables and figures appropriately and proportionally;
  • apply consistent citation and reference formatting;
  • be submitted through the Open Journal System (OJS).

The JPHHS article template must be used from the submission stage.

5. Use of Artificial Intelligence

Authors may use Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools in a limited and responsible manner for purposes such as:

  • grammar checking;
  • language editing;
  • initial organization of the manuscript;
  • other technical assistance.

AI cannot be listed as an author. Authors remain fully responsible for:

  • the accuracy of the content;
  • originality of the work;
  • validity of the data;
  • interpretation of the findings;
  • references and citations;
  • the scientific integrity of the article.

Substantive use of AI in writing or developing a manuscript must be transparently disclosed in the manuscript in accordance with the journal's policy.

AI must not be used to:

  • create or manipulate research data;
  • generate research findings that were not actually conducted;
  • create fabricated references or citations;
  • falsify quotations;
  • conceal plagiarism.

6. Plagiarism and Academic Integrity

All manuscripts may undergo similarity checking using software selected by the journal.

Authors are responsible for ensuring that manuscripts are free from:

  • plagiarism;
  • fabrication;
  • falsification;
  • data manipulation;
  • duplicate publication;
  • and other forms of academic integrity violations.

Similarity-checking results constitute one of the editorial considerations and are not automatically the sole basis for determining plagiarism. Each case will be further assessed by the editor in accordance with the journal's publication ethics policy.

7. Manuscript Submission Process

Manuscripts must be submitted through the JPHHS Open Journal System (OJS).

At the time of submission, authors must ensure that:

☐ The manuscript is within the JPHHS Focus and Scope.
☐ The manuscript has not been previously published.
☐ The manuscript is not under consideration by another journal.
☐ All authors have approved the submission.
☐ All authors' identities and affiliations have been provided correctly.
☐ The corresponding author has been clearly identified.
☐ Any conflict of interest has been declared.
☐ Funding information has been provided.
☐ Ethical approval has been stated where required.
☐ The manuscript follows the JPHHS article template.
☐ References and citations have been checked.
☐ AI use has been disclosed where relevant.
